Sometimes I wonder, are Singaporeans too engrossed in our pursuit of material gains and possession that we sometimes tend to neglect those who need more help than us?

Things that I saw recently seem to tell me so.

I take the MRT very often. In fact, it's so often that I always see the ugly side of many Singaporeans. And the scary thing is that I see more bad than good.

1st Incident

Last sturday on my way to meet des and drew. I got into the train at tanah merah station. There were no seats available but my eyes were drawn to 4 SAF recruits on the seats. Nothing wrong with that, people would say. Yup I agree too.

But but

As the train approached the city, more and more people got onto the train. At Paya Lebar station, an old couple(walking canes!) got into the train. Nobody got up. Not even the recruits. After a while, a seemingly elderly man, probably about 50 odd years old got up and gave his seat to the husband of the elderly couple. The elderly woman remained standing till tanjong pagar. No one else offered his/her seats. The recruits continued chatting, totally nonchalant about the elderly woman.

Oh ya I was standing all these while.

Just when you thought it looked bad enough, things got worse.

At the next stop, a lady and her 2 young kids got into the same carriage. Nobody offered their seats again! I got off at outram park so I didn't know what happened afterward.

2nd Incident

I was returning from camp. Went there to submit a specialist letter to my MO. Again the incident took place onboard the MRT.

I boarded the train at clementi station. The train was the newer one, so it had less seats. The seats were all taken up so I had to stand. Passengers sitting were a good mix of young working adults and some elderly.

Train reached commonwealth station. A few elderly people(60 plus years old) got in. A man reading a book, presumably in his thirties, as if the elderly people had a 'sleeping curse' on them, fell asleep immediately. A lady which I think was in her twenties, started reading her Today newspaper, trying to ignore the situation. Others who didn't exactly looked disabled couldn't even bother to offer help.

At the point in time when the two incidents occurred, I could help but felt angry. Angry that our education system has not been able to teach the right moral values to our citizens. Angry that my generation of Singaporeans do no understand the need to help others. Where was the compassion and kindness? We can make millions of dollars of donations to charity show but we cannot even give up our seats to the elderly?

I'm not a saint and I've erred many times in my life but I for one, always give up my seat to anyone who I feel needs it. Even during my recruit days, I always insist on giving up my seat to the needy beacuse I feel that I need to do it not just as a fellow citizen but also as a role of a protector.

If the soldiers cannot even give up their seat now, would you expect them to protect the people in times of war?

Island Life

You just got to love sentosa... The sun, the beach, everything... Not to mention the gals too.

But on saturday, the cs buddy trio of me, des and drew set out for Sentosa cove, for the BoatAsia Exhibition.

Pretty crowded by the time we got there. Crowd mixture was probably 50% angmohs caucasians and the rest singaporeans and visitors from neighbouring countries.

To me, the exhibition was kinda disppointment. Most of the yachts could only be viewed by appointments only so we only managed to see about 3 of them. Obviously the sellers do not want to waste time on people who would not be able to afford these luxurious babes which were almost going for $500,000 a piece(the cheapest!).

And guess who I met?

Weidong and ZhenLong!

Haha they were manning the booth for the "Try Water Games".

We tried sailing and the 2 tried jet-skiing. Can't wait for the tioman trip to come so we can go try the water sports there.

Chelsea is out of the FA Cup!!!!

Yes Chel-ski is out of the FA cup. For almost the second time in my life I became a Liverpool fan, cheering and shouting the liverpool players on. Great goal by luis garcia! I never liked chelsea ever since abramovich came into the epl scene. I mean, chelsea used to have great players like zola, gullit and even mark hughes(sparkey!) and I really respect them then. But I hate the notion that you can use lots of money to buy the best players in the world. It's almost unlimited funds. There's no longer a level playing field in the market. Clubs who want to buy players just have to outbid chelski and if they fail, off goes another good player to chelsea's bench stamford bridge.

Friends and friends

The Weekend
To start off, weekend was quite a forgettable one. Saturday evening will remain an incident in which integrity and trust was involved. Felt betrayed. It led me to a conclusion that sales is not my cup of tea. Not MLM Network Marketing. Left a bad taste in me after hearing the "agents" talk.

Ok, at least mahjong at the later part of saturday helped lifted my spirits. Few of us bunked in at andy's house and played till the wee hours of the 'morn.

Sunday was spent concussing in bed till I woke up at 3pm realising that I was going to be really super super late to meet des and drew.

Well, I was late in the end. By 45 mins. @1645 hrs.

Conquering Ubin

A few of us went to ubin on monday.

Me, Sebas(look at that evil face) and GuoZhong

Chris, Me and GZ

Anyway, we didn't managed to get a shot of all four of us at all throughout the whole day. There weren't many people to help us either. Had this group of angmohs international students diving at the quarry. Albeit illegally.

Chris had to leave earlier to return the car to his dad(or sth like that). Sebas, GZ and I went exploring the island after Chris left. We uncovered Chek Jawa(Gasp!). Illegally but who gives a darn. High tide there so din see much.

Went went back to camp today. Tried to de-kit but was told that we could only return the stores from 4th May onwards. Well, the store/armskote people seemed stressed up due to the impending LRI. Hope they'll pass with flying colours.

Having driving lessons again this week. Having fun for the moment.

P.S. Oh ya that wasn't the first time I've been to Chek Jawa. Been there with the 4D gang before.

Clearance Loh...

Schedule has been rather packed for the last 2 days. Attended my first driving lesson yesterday. Kinda cool that I get to "drive" one now. Lesson went quite smoothly and I only stalled about 4 times!! Not bad for a first timer yea?

Went for driving lesson again today. Instructor was a lot better than yesterday's. He was more passionate about teaching driving and his focus on getting the basics right was rather in sync with me.

After driving, rushed straight down to camp for medical FFI. Almost everything for clearance is done now. Only waiting to de-kit my items. Looks like everything that I've planned is executing well.

Oh yea added a few friends' links. More to come soon.

Life is good for the moment.

Chelsea Watch Your Back!

Roon the Man
Glory Glory Man Utd!!

Chelsea watch your back 'cos Utd ain't gonna stop the big red tide from crashing into your backyard. Yes, after yesterday night's win against Arse-nal, the swagger and the pride is back. 9 straight league victories!! Kudos to Park Ji-Sung for scoring the goal that sealed the victory. He's the pride of Asian footballers.

Well, today is the beginning of my leave. Feels good to be out of camp but I kinda miss the rowdiness in the bunk. Dun get me wrong. Home feels good but in camp at least there are people to talk to. Some of the other guys are clearing leave next week so it'll be good.

Went cycling at ECP on sat with the platoon guys. Alex, GZ, Sebas, Clarence, Cedric, Jie Wei and I managed to make it. Cycled only for a while before we went to Lagoon for dinner. Hopefully we'll have more outings next time.

Making up for lost time I guess.

Having my first driving lesson tmr. Hope it will turn out all right.

P.S. If you feel that my post sounds sian today, sorry. I dun feel right today. Haha.
